Congressman Rubén Hinojosa has been named as one of the 2014 Hispanic Heritage Awards Honorees, who will be recognized on September 18 at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. Congressman Hinojosa will receive the STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) award, in honor of his extensive work to make Latinos and Latinas competitive in these fields.
"For most of my life I have made education a priority especially for our students in Deep South Texas," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "I dedicated my professional career as a member of the Texas State Board of Education and then as a Congressman who serves on the Committee on Education and the Workforce to finding ways to make college more affordable and accessible for our students. I am very proud of the work being done through UTPA's Hispanic, Engineering, Science, and Technology (HESTEC) to encourage our students to enter into the STEM fields and establish careers of the future. I am extremely honored to have been selected for this prestigious award by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation."
